Invincible Host

press release

June 8 through July 6

Albeliza Perez, Alicia Gibson and Liv Aanrud

Underdonk is pleased to announce its inaugural exhibition, Invincible Host, comprised of three emerging artists, Albeliza Perez, Alicia Gibson, and Liv Aanrud.

The work of these three artists displays the urgency of a tactile approach to art making, and a left to right, lateral logic reminiscent of the hand written letter. Following this logic, they have felt their way forward, constructing elaborate visual narratives one thread, one brushy letter, and one ceramic hieroglyph at a time. Rather than preparing schematic sketches in preparation for a project, these artists prefer to stare blindly into the work in focus, allowing only their innate, highly individuated impulses, and their subconscious narratives to guide the hand. The artworks in this show are the result of an unwavering insistence to find the subject through a ceaseless pondering of equally archaic and pop-cultural, archeological shapes, fissures, and forms. What results is a seeing through feeling, the alchemistic process of the brain’s communication with the hand.

“Your success and happiness lies in you. Resolve to keep happy, and your joy and you shall form an invincible host against difficulties.” –Helen Keller
